DESCRIPTION: EPW - Wm Sayer, Devizes, gold repoussé verge fusee, 49mm, 18-22K gold OF original pair cases, inner bearing London hallmarks for 1741, casemaker's incuse "W . R" marking in script, outer featuring repoussé classical scene featuring two figures holding hands with an angel playing trumpet alongside, gold dial with engine turned center and stippled hour chapter background, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock with grotesque mask at its neck, s#191. Gross weight of assembled watch 77.9 dwt (121.2 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, mvt is challenging to access as latch has been filed down and no longer has an accessible release point and presently requires opening via use of a small tool or screwdriver to be slid in recess under dial to release the remaining portion of latch, otherwise excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some short scratches and fine scratches; nearly mint dial with few micro-fine scratches; outer case shows very little wear, no dents or dings, superb engraving detail with reduction only at the high portions of repoussé design; inner case with evident replacement of one hinge knuckle of bezel, inner case shows light wear, scattered mild dings and nicks; bow pivots freely; good glass bull's-eye crystal.
